Safety equipment, which are being installed in buildings and commercial establishments and adhere to civil defence safety standards play vital role in reporting fire accidents and confining their risk scale. These equipment are also of a support to civil defence because firefighters can use some of them to attack fires during fire fighting operations. Therefore, it has been imperative that these equipment shall remain intact and operational all the time. It is from this point that the idea of Comprehensive Safety Program was derived.
Program objectives
The Comprehensive Safety Program aims at:
1. Reducing fire accidents.
2. Enhancing safety and preventive awareness in the emirate of Dubai.
3. Allowing civil defence to reach all areas including commercial and industrial establishments to ensure safety equipment installed at those venues are well maintained.
4. Enabling safety companies approved by civil defence to maintain all fire fighting and alarm equipment under the supervision of civil defence.
5. Maintenance of fire fighting and alarm equipment and systems in all buildings and establishments in Dubai by the approved safety companies and under the supervision of civil defence.
* The procedures being followed by civil defence to test fire extinguishers in buildings, examine their readiness and maintain fire fighting and alarm equipment are significant to residents’ safety. They also support civil defence to perform its humanitarian mission in protecting community members from fire dangers.
