Middle East Fire Safety Conference Opens On INTERSEC Sideline


On behalf of Maj.Gen.Expert Rashid Thani ALMatrooshi, Director General of Dubai Civil Defence, Lt.Col. Jamal Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of Preventive Safety, inaugurated Middle East Fire Safety Conference held on the sideline of INTERSEC 2016, in the presence of a number of engineers representing Consultants offices, fire products manufacturers,installation,testing and maintenance companies. In his delivered speech said:

“Dousing the massive fire broke out in Address Downtown Hotel in New year’s eve has formed a substantial challenge, as how important is the integration between Civil Defence main operational pillars ((awareness – protection – firefighting) with other supportive operations (planning – training – administrative- organizational – technical), and was also a major indicator which reflected the role of theoretical Civil Defence sciences and its relevant applications, commanders and individuals acquired, including information demonstrated by specialist experts during scientific conferences such as your valuable INTERSEC”.

He added also:

Any observer of INTERSEC conference and exhibition throughout its seventeen conducted sessions can recognizes the rapid technological development seen in firefighting and public safety technology systems, and the impact of latest safety products on the improvement of residents safety environment and the remarkable advancement of Civil Defence methods and applications in the whole region and particularly in UAE. No doubt, such developments should be applied practically on the field operations, and accumulated experiences of field commanders should as well be assembled as a curriculum to improve fire and public safety teams skills..

Understanding of fire spreading mechanism, fire safety strategies and evacuations procedures are considered essential factors in different economic and social sectors.

Proper management of fire safety systems requires developing clear and strong concepts for the main factors needed to have concrete infrastructure to hold present and future safety requirements. Setting such concepts is one of INTERSEC targets. We are very much confident that issues to be raised during this session will add qualitative value to Civil Defence sciences and applications, and this will include: acquiring deep understanding of fire spreading mechanism in different environments and new innovative management system to control it, knowing more about fire protection measures, need to conduct appropriate testing and proper fire systems maintenance methods, importance of training in avoiding potential crisis, proper behavior to be followed during emergency situations and finally to know to what extent case studies presented by international industry experts are relevant to our region.


Lt.Col. asserted:

Throughout the recent past years Civil Defence showed sincere keenness to invest and implement latest technologies in achieving its sustainable development vision.. as a base to achieve its strategic goal (smart Civil Defence..smart services. Smart city), which meets our prudent leadership vision towards making UAE one of the safest and most secure country of the world by 2021, which coincides with the 50th    anniversary of UAE establishment. Similarly, this vision coincides also with the designed strategy aiming at completing the infra-structure required to host Expo 2020, an event expected to impress the world of its achievements.

Civil Defence has managed to transfer most its services indifferent fields into smart ones, specially preventive safety services. Moreover, is working hard to complete the normative system of protection, prevention, firefighting and other supportive services.

He ended saying:

Dubai Civil Defence will display a number of services such as building smart systems, personal safety dashboard, recent update of Emirates fire code, introduction to Emirates Academy of fire sciences. These project will mark new stage of Civil Defence services technology development and we will always remain a principal partner with all public and private safety stakeholders, and constant supporter for all safety activities.. in order to make UAE one of the safest and secured country of the world.

Then attended the questions raised by the participants in regard to Fire Code applications.
